This post marks my 30th travel/life related post. When I kicked off this travel newsletter thing back in March I had no idea that I would still be writing it by the end of 2023. As I take a look back on the past year, I am so happy to have been able to share so much of my life with you all. This will be my last post of the year because I will be taking the 31st off to party. I thought a fun way to end the year would be to look back on my 2023 travels in a Spotify “Wrapped” type of way. Let’s get to Today’s piece :).
If I had more time I would have made a bunch of fun graphics in powerpoint, but I’m lazy. Instead, I hope you enjoy these lazily edited pictures. This year I spent quite a bit of time in transit!
PLANES!!!
These flights took me to 10+ countries and 5+ states! At ~175 hours I spent 14.5 days on planes. Assuming ~2 hours in the airport for each flight thats over 100 hours spent in airports! I covered enough air distance to fly around the world 2.95 times! These numbers will likely decrease in 2024.
TRAIN(ER)S!!!
I couldn’t find an efficient way to calculate time and distance spent on trains so instead I’m going to add in my time spent running.
Spread out over 16.5 hours thats roughly a 9 minute/mile pace. This number does not include treadmill running which probably adds another 50 miles. This number should significantly increase in 2024.
AUTOMOBILES!!!
Assuming an average speed of 50 mph that means I spent 12 days (144 hours) driving! That’s roughly 18 tanks of gas… at least gas is cheap in Texas. These numbers should stay pretty consistent in 2024.
BOOKS!!
I read 25 books in 2023… It helps that I spent so much time on planes! These numbers will likely dip in 2024.
